Why are we so passionate about wine? That's easy, it enhances the best parts of life. Whether you're enjoying a fabulous meal with friends and family, or you're having a romantic dinner for two, or you're just looking for a way to relax after a stressful Tuesday.. wine makes everything better. And you don't have to be an accomplished Somm to be able to enjoy, in fact sometimes that helps! All you need is a mouth and a glass and you can enjoy this amazing combination of art and science.
We love traveling the world and trying wines as well as meeting the amazing people who make them. Most wine producers we run into aren't snooty high-brow types at all, they are farmers, often times second, third or fourth generation farmers, and they take a enormous pride in producing a great quality product.
Wines We Carry
Let's start by talking about what you won't find at d'Vines. You won't find boring, mass produced wines. It isn't that we are wine snobs (okay, we may have been accused of that once or twice) but there is such a wide world of wines to explore, regardless of your wine knowledge or your budget. There are more than 7,000 varietals of grapes that can be made into wine - yet most people are only exposed to the same five or six that grocery store shelves are stocked with. We live in the best time in history to enjoy great wines - even the royalty of the middle ages with all their decadence couldn't get wines as good as what we have at our fingertips these days.
Our wine selection is meticulously curated by our staff who is passionate about bring the best wines to our guests. The store displays are split into several categories:
Old World Wines - Europe, specifically France, Germany, Italy and Spain, have long been the world leaders in great wine production. It's easy to get caught up in paying more for a label with these wines and not getting the quality, so we painstakingly vette each one to make sure that you're not only getting a great wine but it's also worth the price you're paying for it.
New World Wines - The 'New World' is pretty much anywhere outside of Europe. This includes exciting new wine growing regions like Argentina, South Africa, New Zealand, Australia, and yes, America. Great American wine isn't just from Napa anymore. The vineyards from Washington, Oregon and the New York Finger Lakes are putting out some of the best new wines, and knocking off the competition in international contests.
Bubbles & Champagne- "Champagne is the world's best way to ingest Carbon Dioxide", a great quote from renowned wine critic Jancis Robinson. No celebration is complete without the bubbles. We carry true French Champagne, of course, but we also carry a selection of great Cavas, Proseccos and many other sparkling wines that you will love as well (and will be easier on the budget).
World Class Wines - this selection is what makes our Sommelier's dreams come true. We carry a great array of some of the best, highest rated and most sought after wines you'll find anywhere in Bloomington.
Rare Finds - This area includes Kosher wines, orange wines, natural and organic certified wines. If there is something you can't find that you're looking for here, let us know and we can get it for you.
Sweet, Fortified & Dessert Wines - Moscato, Port, Madeira, Sherry.. we have an assortment of amazing sweet and dessert wines tempt your taste buds.
Value Wines - These aren't your run-of-the-mill cheap wines! Sure, they are all priced under $12 but they represent the best bang for your buck.
Home Grown - We have at least 10 wines made by Indiana wineries such as Oliver, Butler, Huber and others that showcase the grape varietals like Traminette and Chambourcin that flourish here in our lush Indiana soil.
Special Stock - We are constantly working with our distributors to get our hands on great new releases, rare vintages, and other hard-to-get stocks. These selections are usually only available in limited quantities and don't last long (and we make sure our Wine Club members get first dibs - hint hint).
Featured Vineyards - As part of our mission to promote great artisan and family owned vineyards we scour the globe looking for great candidates for us to bring you as our Featured Vineyards. Often times these will have a wide range from semi-mass produced vintages all the way up to premium so you can see the difference that comes from wines being grown in estate vineyards and using skilled vintner skills can make. We also love to tell the stories of the people behind these wines, as they are often just as fascinating as the wines they produce.
Wines To Taste
d'Vines is thrilled to offer the only wine sampling machines in all of Southern Indiana. Any day of the week you can some try any of our 28 wines 'on tap'. In the coming months we will also be adding Gift Baskets that will be sure to put a smile on any wine lovers face.
Long before our family decided to launch d'Vines it became a standard practice for us to gift each other great wines for holidays and birthdays. So, of course, we've made it easy for you to be able to do the same. Our Tasting Cards double as Gift Cards and can be configured with any dollar amount. This is a great way to give someone you care about an amazing wine experience even if you don't know their wine tastes.
